In part 1 of Hollowing my Ward Style Black Duck, i'll be making a bottom plate first, then using it for a guide to show where to route a groove and then proceed to hollow using a speed bore bit first in my electric drill to rough an opening, then going to my different bits to fine tune the cavity. In my other video, Hen Mallard, Ward style, I made a cut with my band saw through the block while in the sawing out stage. The technique I will be demonstrating is different from that. I will be hollowing from the bottom eliminating a saw cut down through the bird where you might see the glue joint. I like to hollow for two reasons. It relieves the pressure from inside the duck, which may cause splits to occur, and also I just like the feeling of a light duck when I am painting it or handling it. The choice is yours. Have very sharp tools and bits when hollowing, otherwise it could take awhile and you may become discouraged. Sit back and enjoy the process of hollowing. A few times through the demo, the picture freezes up, I don't know why the video does this, just leaving you know. There is nothing wrong with your computer. Any questions, feel free to ask.
