Compassionate travels by Margo Cooper. Street children of Istanbul.

The next stop of my “Compassionate travels” project is Istanbul. I decided to make a short film about children of the streets we see with our eyes every day, but I wanted everyone to look at them through the heart this time. This documentary turned out to be more about all of us. I spent a month on the streets of my favorite city talking to street children, homeless people, foundations, officials and relevant parties to find the answers. Every person, every child I met has a story to tell. Story to be heard, story about their past and struggling present. Where the destiny is leading them, that depends on all of us. There are nearly 28 millions of homeless children in the world. Turkey has a system to protect children and their rights, and to provide them with an access to children’s villages, education and care. However, how to help those who can’t even picture any better than their street life, and don’t know that they might need help?
