Norfolk & Western 475: Echoes of the Southern Pacific in Paradise: July 2024 (4K)

During the last week of July, my mom & I went down to Strasburg for a day Trip. It had been almost 2 months since my last steam chase, and it had been a while since I had been to Strasburg so I thought this would be the perfect time. I always enjoy going down to see whatever train is operating at the Strasburg Railroad. The trains that day, would be pulled by Norfolk & Western 475, which is my favorite engine at the Railroad. It would be wearing a Southern Pacific 6 Chime, one of my favorite whistles. We would ride the 10 AM train, then chase the rest of the day. It was a sunny, hot humid day on the Road to Paradise. Giving some great whistle shows, and fantastic stack talk, enjoy my coverage of #475 on a Late July summers day. However, my camera would have some issues. Last month while chasing the Summerville Double header special at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum I would drop my camera. The zoom function was gone, but I got a controller to bypass that. However the focus on my camera completely went. While it was able to focus for the most part as the day went on, I had to discard various clips. About 75% of the footage was deemed usable, and even those clips have some issues. However I notice in the clips I saved the focus does resolve its self as the train gets closer or it stayed in focus. So I do apologize if this is not up to par with my other videos. I hope you all enjoy this video! I also ran into and had a lot of fun with ‪@RailfanThommy‬ that day. The Norfolk & Western 475 is the oldest operational steam locomotive at the Strasburg Railroad. Having been built in June of1906 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, for the Norfolk & Western Railway. It would operate until the late 50s before being retired. It moved around over the years, and at one point was at the Illinois Railway Museum. However in the early 90s it was purchased by the Strasburg Railroad, and restored to operation in November of 1993. It has since operated for the Strasburg Railroad, and is the only operational 4-8-0 in the US. It also appeared in a movie I saw in the theaters as a kid, Thomas & The Magic Railroad in 2001 as scenes for the movie were filmed at the Strasburg Railroad and Harrisburg Amtrak Station. I never got to those 5 year anniversary videos! But they will be up at some point. This past week I documented the Last James E Straites Fair Train as it traveled to Buffalo for the Last Erie County Fair Train. That being said, I have a new 4K Camera on the way, and I look forward to testing it out over the next few weeks. I also look forward to chasing the #2102 on the Pittston Trips in the next few weeks if all goes well. And after that, I will be back at the Strasburg Railroad in the Fall, and hopefully if all goes well I will be seeing #1225 #1003 #113 and possibly #4014 before the year is over!
