I grew up watching 2D miko on the screen - they were always the most beautiful, spiritual, powerful and mysterious characters - and naturally I developed a deep interest in them. Ngl - getting to experience the miko life for even just half a day was a childhood dream come true 😭 Videoing of the Kami (God) is strictly forbidden so I can’t show you the Oharai (purification ritual), meaning you’ll just have to experience it for yourself! Even if you can’t do this miko experience, you can experience oharai at many shrines and temples by paying a fee. I did it once in Tokyo because I needed a good cleansing and I can guarantee it’s an otherworldly, worthwhile experience! 📍 Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine, Nagoya (名古屋総鎮守 若宮八幡社) ⚠️ Requirements: 1. Conversational Japanese ability 2. Respect the Shrine’s rules 3. No facial tattoos; any other tattoos that are visible when wearing the miko clothing must be fully covered 4. The miko clothing is only available in up to a JAPANESE Size L. I’m really, REALLY sorry but what that means is the limit is ~175cm/100kg. 5.
