■ National Theater of Korea's Gugak Academy for Foreigners - What is “Let's Gugak”? “Let's Gugak” is a video lecture program released by the National Theater of Korea's Gugak Academy for Foreigners. The program is designed to ease the difficulties of conducting on-site educational programs caused by the pandemic and help foreigners at home and abroad meet and understand the traditional Korean art, “Gugak.” Each subject – “Samullori Instrumental Music,” “Pansori,” and “Korean Dance” – is comprised of three videos and also includes one “Practice Video” per subject that allows repetitive practice. ■ Program Summary August 12 (Thursday) 📍 Learning Gueum for Samullori Instrumental Music “Deong deong gungdda gung.” Did you know that you can perform Samullori Instrumental Music using your mouth? Let’s learn the Gueum for Samullori Instrumental Music and perform the Slow Hwimorijangdan Rhythmic Cycle. August 19 (Thursday) 📍 How to quickly switch over the Gungchae “Hududuk hududuk!” There’s a secret to switching over your Gungchae from one side to the other at the speed of light! Let’s learn the three ways to quickly switch over your Gungchae and perform the Hududuk garak. August 26 (Thursday) 📍 Performing Samullori Instrumental Music through Gueum “Deong ddagungdda gungddaddagungda.” If you learn the Gueum, you can enjoy performing Samullori Instrumental Music anywhere, any time without any instruments! Let’s learn the Bansamchaejangdan Rhythmic Cycle and perform Samullori Instrumental Music through Gueum. September 2 (Thursday) 📍 Learning the Sarangga, Aniri and Jangdan Rhythmic Cycle of the Chunhyangga Pansori Did you know there were romantic love songs even during the Joseon Dynasty? Let’s learn the Sarangga part of Chunhyangga Pansori, one of the five foundational pieces of Pansori. First, let’s learn the Jangdan Rhythmic Cycle and sing the Aniri part to warm up. September 16 (Thursday) 📍 Learning the Sigimsae, Ballim, and Chuimsae for Sarangga Sigimsae, Ballim, and Chuimsae complete the feel and energy of Pansori!
