Troms in winter is familiar to many (Norwegians), especially the Nordkalott-ski route when the spring arrives in full force. With it´s ruthless landscape—wild, beautiful, and far from civilization. The Open mountain highlands ideal for traditional Norwegian winter expeditions and friluftsliv. Pulling the sled through thick forests and over mountains, listening to the wood stove crackle in the DNT cabins. But is it also suitable for steep skiing and freeriding? Can you find lines where the wild snow has been left untouched for generations? In the spring of 2025, Markus Aase and Christian Lund set out on a month-long expedition to answer that question. Behind the camera, they were joined by photographer Dina Rindsem Ertsås, documenting it all.
