-In this i-PLACE 25 talk, Professor Andy Salmon (Bath Spa University) and Cleo Newcombe-Jones (Bath and North East Somerset Council) present a place-based approach to inclusive and regenerative growth. The session uses Bath and North East Somerset as a live case study to show how a city region’s cultural, creative, educational, and economic assets can be aligned to support innovation, skills development, enterprise, and regeneration. The talk covers: Structural challenges in high-value but uneven local economies How culture and creativity can act as catalysts for wider innovation The importance of purpose-led, not purely market-led, development Building connected pathways across skills, research, innovation, and enterprise The presentation also sets out the rationale for treating the city region as an integrated system — where physical spaces, creative practice, universities, local government, and communities work together to deliver long-term social and economic value. This talk is part of the i-PLACE 25 series.
