This video really kind of started to as me just testing out different G Master lenses on the SONY fx30 and taking audio notes for myself, but as I was watching them back I noticed a lot of difference with how the focused, so I thought the footage might be helpful for others to see. Since the FX30 is becoming a popular body style, I imagine many will be looking for test film using these popular lens options. They look and perform quite different than test footage from the Sony FX3 because the FX30 has a crop sensor, so all these higher end G master lenses get a 1.5x crop. In the video I try out and compare the following lenses: Sony f1.4 35mm GM Prime Sony f2.8 16-35mm GM Sony f2.8 24-70mm GM 2 Sigma f2.8 18-50mm Overall I feel the Sigma was very impressive for being 1/4 to half the price of the masters. It offered the least focus breathing of all but had some struggle the more you zoomed in. Sony's 24-70 GM2 offered the best/most accurate color and clarity with minimal focus breathing, and preformed much better even when zoomed into the full 70mm. It also offered the largest zoom range so that is an added benefit! The 35mm prime lens had the worst focus breathing in my opinion, and it was too bright to take advantage of the 1.4 aperture without an ND filter. For those wondering about the color coming out of the film straight from the camera- I did not do any color grading on this footage aside from very basic on the opening shot.
