More than half of the country's hops are cultivated in the Yakima Valley, WA. It's a unique geographic region that accommodates hop agriculture with a dry, desert-like climate and a summer water supply from the Cascade Mountain Range. However, even mountains as grand as the Cascades are more frequently experiencing lower than average snowpack, making water-dependent farmers rethink their operations. One such farm is CLS, a fifth-generation family farm in the heart of the Yakima Valley. Precision irrigation, energy-efficient kilns, and new varietal development are among just a few of the ways that CLS is proactively becoming more sustainable and securing the future of your precious beer. Thanks to the Desmarais family for their hospitality, we had a fun and insightful time! Special thanks to CLS for some awesome harvest footage. For more on CLS, visit their website: https://clsfarms.com/ Local Motives showcases local perspectives on the challenges and solutions associated with climate change. It is the production of two friends, Nate Murray and Cody Pfister, traveling across the 50 states seeking to establish an authentic and relatable bottom-up communication stream.
