Mother of Everett 4-year-old found dead along I-5 in Pierce County arrested for murder

The mother of the 4-year-old Everett boy who was found dead along Interstate 5 in Pierce County Thursday evening was arrested for murder Friday. According to the Everett Police Department, 4-year-old Ariel Garcia’s mother, Janet Garcia, was arrested in Vancouver, Washington, for first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree assault of a child. Police said she was “a person of interest and her whereabouts were known early on in the investigation.” The EPD said Janet Garcia was booked into the Snohomish County jail. Police said she was taken into custody by the Clark County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday for making "false and misleading statements" within hours of Ariel being reported missing. Police said Ariel was last seen around 7 a.m. Wednesday in an apartment on the 4800 block of Vesper Drive. He was reported missing “under suspicious circumstances” by a relative around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
