When I discovered house music in 1986, I quickly fell in love with the Marshall Jefferson sound, especially his ability to blend those raw house rhythms with floating keyboards. I heard about a double album that contained the best that Trax records had to offer. I managed to find the import version at my local (at the time) dance music specialists – Rounder Records in Brighton. As I didn’t have a record player in my student digs, I got my mate, Guy, to copy it to tape for me. I still have the vinyl I’m pleased to say, and I have now dug out the cassette recording from the Dance Muzak vaults. This is Side Three. For me the weakest of the 4 sides. You may disagree , and it is not without interest. You can hear different types of house in the Hercules and On The House tracks but both are Jefferson productions. Then there are tunes by Farley Jackmaster Funk with Farley Keith, and Mr Lee (as Master C & J). Then a more left-field track by Mr Fingers. All good fun!
