বাংলার ইতিহাসে মারাঠা বর্গিদের হানা এক নৃশংসতম অধ্যায়। নবাব আলীবর্দী খাঁ-এর আমলে ১৭৪২ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে ১৭৫১ খ্রিস্টাব্দ পর্যন্ত রঘুজি ভোঁসলে ও ভাস্কর পণ্ডিতের নেতৃত্বে মারাঠা বর্গিরা বারবার বাংলার বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে আক্রমণ চালায়। তাদের লক্ষ্য ছিল মুঘল সম্রাটের কাছে না জমা পড়া চৌথ আদায়। কিন্তু বর্ধমান, বীরভূম, মুর্শিদাবাদ, রাজশাহী, হুগলী, রাজমহল, নদীয়া, রাজমহল -ইত্যাদি অঞ্চলের শয়ে শয়ে গ্রামে তারা শুধু লুঠপাট নয়, আক্রমণ করে হত্যা করে ৪ লক্ষ বাঙালিকে। লক্ষ লক্ষ নারীকে ধর্ষণ করে! মধ্যযুগের বাংলা সাহিত্যের কবি ভারতচন্দ্র তাঁর অন্নদামঙ্গল কাব্যে, গঙ্গাধর তাঁর মহারাষ্ট্রপুরাণে লিখে গেছেন সেই ভয়াবহ দিনের কথা। আজও “খোকা ঘুমলো পাড়া জুড়লো বর্গি এলো দেশে / বুলবুলিতে ধান খেয়েছে খাজনা দেবো কীসে” -এই ঘুমপাড়ানি ছড়ায় রয়ে গেছে সেই ইতিহাস। আজকের পর্বে রইল বঙ্গে বর্গি আক্রমণের উপর একটি গল্প আর বর্গি হানার ইতিহাস। #bargi #history #bangla #bengali #bengal #ইতিহাস #বর্গি One of the most brutal chapters in Bengal's history is the Maratha Bargi raids. During the reign of Nawab Alivardi Khan, from 1742 to 1751, under the leadership of Raghuji Bhonsle and Bhaskar Pandit, the Maratha Bargis repeatedly attacked various regions of Bengal. Their goal was to collect Chauth*, a tax that hadn't been paid to the Mughal Emperor. In the regions of Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Rajshahi, Hooghly, Rajmahal, Nadia, and many others, they not only looted hundreds of villages but also killed 400,000 Bengalis. Millions of women were raped! Medieval Bengali poets Bharat Chandra in his *Annadamangal poem and Gangadhar in his Maharashtra Purana have written about those horrific days. Even today, the lullaby “Khoka ghumloo para jurolo Bargi elo deshe / Bulbulite dhan kheyeche khajna debo kise” (The child sleeps, the village rests, but the Bargis have come / The birds have eaten the crops, how will we pay the taxes?) reflects that history.
