Pumping and Introducing a Bottle | Expert Tips from San Diego Lactation Consultants Welcome to DIY Breastfeeding, created by Robin Kaplan, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and owner of the San Diego Breastfeeding Center. In this video, we discuss the optimal timing for introducing bottle feeding and pumping for newborns. It’s recommended to start when the baby is between three to six weeks old, aligning with their natural sucking reflex, which is most effective before eight to twelve weeks. The suggested approach is to pump after morning breastfeeding sessions when milk supply is higher. Parents should aim to collect around three ounces of milk over a few days before introducing the bottle, with help from a loved one to assist with the process. This session provides practical guidance to make the transition smoother for both parent and baby.
