On the eve of Independence Day, angry Indians staged a nationwide protest against the murder of a Kolkata medical student. Thousands of people from different walks of life took to the streets, demanding justice for ‘Abhaya’. Suddenly, the peaceful protest turned ugly after a violent mob stormed RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. Scores of people entered the campus and vandalised public properties, several vehicles parked on streets. The mob also attacked the Kolkata Police vehicles resulting in a scuffle between police officials, miscreants. Hasan Mushtaq, a trainee doctor narrated the horrific ordeal and smelled a ‘conspiracy’ to disrupt the protest.
