Rohan Iyer - Tuba Berta Brozgul - Piano Mvmt 1: 0:07 Mvmt 2: 3:59 Mvmt 3: 5:55 Mvmt 4: 7:47 Henry Eccles (1670-1742) was an English composer writing music during the Baroque period. A violinist himself, Eccles acquainted himself with the then French ambassador to Britain, Louis, duc d'Aumont, and relocated to France around 1713. This sonata is the eleventh in Eccles' 1720 collection of twelve sonatas for violin and basso continuo, many of which were borrowed from other composers, particularly Giuseppe Valentini. This particular sonata, in G minor, is largely Eccles' own work and one that he is most remembered for, yet still contains excerpts of another composer's music. The work in its current form, for tuba and piano, has been adapted by Fernand Lelong. The piece is in four short movements. The first is a Largo - a slow, lyrical introduction to the rest of the piece. The second is a Corrente - a lively Italian court dance in triple metre. This particular movement is taken from the end of Francesco Antonio Bonporti's 'Ten Inventions' for violin and basso continuo. The third movement returns to a slower Adagio pace, resembling a Spanish Sarabande dance. The final Presto movement is reminiscent of a Gigue, a lively Baroque-era dance originating from the English Jig, providing an exciting finish to the work.
