Stereo passive ribbon microphones offer a ton of advantages. In this video, we take a look at the Royer Labs SF-12 and the AEA R88. Each mic has a different size, sonic character, price, and way in which they can be positioned on a mic stand. For each example, the mics were run directly into a Universal Audio Apollo and then the example was repeated using a Royer dBooster. Notice how the dBooster not only increases the level, but alters the sound of each microphone. There is no processing on these tracks beside level matching.
