Touring the city by foot and bus we see an amazing resilient people along with hearing a cacophony of sounds. In this video that takes place over several days, we see numerous Tuk-Tuk's buzzing about the city. Tuk-Tuk's are motorcycles with seats for as many people that can fit inside. Additionally, they carry everything from luggage, mattresses, palm trees, food to and from the markets, etc... You'll see typical animals (cats, dogs, birds...) along with food that's sold on the street. The walks are something to watch too, especially the holes, curbs, tiles... Also featured is the tall steps up from the river where people carry goods from the jungle and cargo boats to sell at the markets. These are staged on the street for movement throughout the city. Men have carried freshly cut bananas on their backs for literally hundreds of years and do to this day. We buy our groceries from various fruit and vegetable vendors as well as a local UNO grocery store. Here they have a special line for "old people" - allowing us to cut ahead of others to check out. (We only take advantage of this when the check out person calls us forward.) Homes on the river in Iquitos are known as the Belen district. There are some little stores there, even a paved River Walk that we explored. Eventually we got to the end of the line and turned around. More friendly cats and dogs greeted us. We were surprised to hear American music blaring "Grease" by Frankie Valli. The wooden scaffolds hold the locals but we wandered as far as we wanted to. Many buy and sell off of the canoes in the river there, but not us this time. The photo of the 3 birds on the wire are Black Buzzards, Rand saw them drying their wings up there while out on his morning run one day. The video goes onto include descending stairs to the waterfront of the Balen community that surrounds the famous floating market at Belen (https://www.perunorth.com/news/2023/6.... Then taking a bus through the gridlock with political festivities in the marketplace of Belen just west of the river - and onto the modern mall in town (Mall Adventura). The video concludes with Rand's roadside haircut, costing 10 Soles ($3 in USD). Why a Coca Cola truck? We find Coca Cola signs and insignias in every country we visit, it's fun to see!
