We took our Winnebago Revel deep into Oregon’s remote backcountry, starting with the dramatic rock formations of Leslie Gulch. It's as stunning as the photos, until a thunderstorm hit. Slick roads, exposed rocks, and washouts made the drive out a real test. We break down what to expect after rain, how the Revel handled the rough terrain fully loaded, and whether a van should even attempt it. The free BLM campground at the base was empty and beautiful, but not without its own quirks. Next stop: Birch Creek. Steep grades, loose gravel, and narrow drop-offs brought unexpected challenges. We share what clearance and tires you’ll need and why we nearly bailed on the whole plan. We finished at Coffee Pot Crater, camping above the lava fields with an epic view and wild wind.
