Ode Phénicienne (2025) For Soprano and Violin Composed by Sami Seif Written for TAK Ensemble (Charlotte Mundy, Soprano and Marina Kifferstein, Violin) Text by Elie Aouad — “Ode Phénicienne” is a 7-minute work for soprano and violin, composed in loving memory of my cousin Alexandre Aouad. The text, written by his father, Elie Aouad, unfolds in a reconstructed form of the ancient Canaanite language. It evokes a celestial council—voices from Lebanese, French, Greek, and Canaanite traditions—joining in a spiritual reflection on life, joy, and eternity. This piece draws from Levantine folk music, Arabic maqam, and contemporary extended techniques, weaving them into an intimate yet expansive dialogue between voice and violin. A paraphrase of the 7th movement of Telemann’s Partita No. 5—a piece Alexandre once played on recorder—appears as a sonic memory, a musical offering woven into the structure. The video features the full score in dark mode, designed for clarity and immersion, allowing viewers to follow every nuance of the music and text. The performance unfolds with controlled aleatoric elements, microtonal inflections, and a deep reverence for linguistic and spiritual heritage. 🔗 Connect with me for the latest updates and exclusive content: Website: https://samiseif.com/ SoundCloud: / samiseif Instagram: / samiseifcomposer Facebook: / samiseifcomposer Twitter: / samiseif9 Newsletter sign-up: https://www.samiseif.com/newsletter-s...
