Apple decided to remove the power adapters from its retail box for smartphones, and Samsung had soon followed suit as well. However, this has led to both companies facing scrutiny and fines from various governments across the World. According to reports, Apple is currently facing additional fines in Brazil for not shipping their new iPhones with a charger. The company has defended itself and clarified that it took the move to remove the power adapter in order to reduce its yearly carbon emission by 2 million metric tons thanks to smaller packaging. And with smaller boxes, the company can ship more boxes in a single shipping pallet and it also benefits the company as it can save shipping costs as well since it does not have to ship power adapters and AirPods. In a related news, after the European Union, now India intends to have a common charger for all smart devices. The Union government of India had initially set up an inter-ministerial task force to allow discussions over this issue and it is agreed to mandate USB-C on all smart devices.
