The 15 wounded in the attack on the Muslim bin Aqil mosque included a fundamentalist cleric, Abu al-Manar, who has spoken out against the killings of Iraqis. A police colonel also said a cylinder filled with TNT was found at the scene, but it did not explode. The attack occurred at 5 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) in Alam, just northeast of Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, 130 kilometres (80 miles) north of Baghdad. Al-Manar subscribes to the Salafi - or Wahhabi - brand of Sunni Islam, which espouses an ancient and "pure" form of Islam. But he rejected the extremist takfiri ideology that urges Sunni Muslims to kill anyone they consider an infidel, even fellow Muslims. Meanwhile, hundreds of Najaf residents on Wednesday held an evening funeral procession for a senior member of the Da'wa party which Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki belongs to. Radhi al-Zamili, in charge of the Da'wa party's Kufa branch was killed by gunmen on Tuesday night. Kufa is six kilometres away from the holy city of Najaf, south of Baghdad.
