While MEPs rightly condemn the appalling imprisonment by Russian authorities of journalist, and critic of the attack on Ukraine, Vladimir Kara-Murza, the European Parliament has never mentioned similar repression against Julian #Assange, Pablo Gonzalez or a host of others. The inconsistent application of justice is not justice. By failing to be consistent and calling out repression by the United States, the West gives Russia illegitimate rhetorical justification for its own repression of journalists. The test of how much we uphold human rights is not how much we condemn the faults of others. It is in how we manage our own houses.
