Every family's nightmare: Their own child is kidnapped. In this film, we tell the stories of three child abductions in North Rhine-Westphalia – with very different outcomes. In 1988, a burglar broke into the P. family's home in Eslohe. He strangled the grandmother, locked the great-grandmother inside – and disappeared with their 15-month-old grandchild. The parents were desperate and ready to pay the ransom demanded. The police's plan: to catch the perpetrator during the money handover. But for the child, all help came too late. In 1981, eleven-year-old Johannes Erlemann was kidnapped in Cologne on his way to school. The perpetrators locked him in a box and demanded millions from his parents. Johannes survived – but immediately after his release, he had to face the lurid questions of some media representatives. The third case: Eight-year-old Steffi (name changed) was also kidnapped on her way to school in 1981. Five months later, she is abandoned alive at a motorway service station. Her kidnappers are never caught. How can victims and their families continue to live after such an act? Our host Ida discusses this with criminal psychologist Christian Lüdke. Alexander Brüggemeier explains how he, as a judge, deals with child abduction cases. Note: We unfortunately made an error at minute 6:13. Johannes Erlemann was abducted in 1981, not 1989. We apologize for this error. ____ Table of Contents 00:00-00:51 Intro 00:52-02:46 Child abduction in the Sauerland region 02:47-03:36 The blackmail 03:37-04:06 A gruesome discovery 04:07-05:39 A judge issues a ruling 05:40-06:05 How often are children abducted? 6:06-9:15 The kidnapping of Johannes 9:16-10:58 The role of the media 10:59-11:20 Johannes' childhood 11:21-13:14 The kidnapping of Steffi 13:15-16:05 The psychology of the perpetrators 16:06-16:39 Conclusion ____ We are #MordOrte, the true crime format of WDR Lokalzeit. It's precisely because of this experience that I find it important today as a journalist to cover such trials, explain the background, and give those involved a voice outside the courtroom if they wish. I find it particularly fascinating to shed light on the differences between legal adjudication and perceived justice. That's why I've been a writer on the MordOrte team for a long time – and now also in front of the camera. ___ Imprint: http://wdr.de/k/Impressum Privacy Policy: http://www.wdr.de/k/datenschutz Produced with ❤ and your broadcasting fee. #WDRLokalzeit
