This event took place at RestFest Film Festival 2026 on February 14 over Zoom. Overview A discussion between Althea Eccles (they/he) and Sammy Holden (they/them), two transgender filmmakers based in the UK, regarding genre in film and community-based filmmaking. They will discuss examples of films featuring transgender people and made by transgender artists to dissect how film and genre interacts with transgender experiences. Sammy and Al will also draw on their own experiences in filmmaking and their alternative approaches to trans representations. About the Filmmakers: Sammy Holden is a filmmaker, film educator and artist. They have recently successfully completed their PhD in Media By Practice. Their short film work has been screened most recently in MIX NYC and Fringe! Queer Film Festival. @obscurefilm Althea J Eccles - I am a filmmaker, photographer and digital content creator. My work is where art, activism and Anthropology meet. My work aims to work with marginalised groups to tell their stories with them not for them.
