Testimony before the Nkabinde Inquiry revealed allegations that members of the Cato Manor unit were bribed by a taxi association, receiving amounts allegedly totaling R1 million, as well as smaller payments such as R10,000, to carry out targeted killings. According to the testimony, the taxi association allegedly supplied a hit list, which police officers were said to have acted upon. Many of the murders linked to this period lacked clear motives — until the alleged bribes and payments were revealed. Even more disturbing is the claim that officers implicated in these killings were later rewarded with certificates of recognition and excellence. The inquiry also heard allegations that the former National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi, told the Nkabinde Inquiry that she had no direct knowledge of certain dockets and relied only on memoranda — a claim now being challenged by evidence presented under oath. But this is not a single-person story. At the Madlanga Commission, testimony raised serious questions about Brigadier Rachel, who was allegedly romantically involved with Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala and received large sums of money, including R300,000 and other payments. While Brigadier Rachel denies assisting with the awarding of tenders, testimony highlighted her close proximity to decision-makers involved in the tender process — raising questions about whether money, relationships, and influence were intertwined. Similar patterns have emerged elsewhere. At the AD HOC Committee, allegations surfaced involving Sarah Jane Trent, who allegedly received money while assisting Robert McBride, later revealing a personal relationship. At the same AD HOC proceedings, further controversy unfolded when a Member of Parliament dismissed Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as merely “disappointed” with the criminal justice system, while insisting he should apologise — despite the substance of his allegations remaining unresolved. This video unpacks a troubling pattern: Alleged bribery for assassinations Romantic relationships overlapping with state power Denials, contradictions, and exposed falsehoods And a justice system struggling to confront its own rot This is not just a story about individuals — it is a story about how money becomes a weapon, how relationships become currency, and how truth fights to survive in a captured system. ⚠️ This video discusses allegations, sworn testimony, and ongoing inquiries.
