(14 Jun 1999) Natural Sound Forty-eight hours after Russian soldiers triumphantly entered Pristina, life for the majority of ethnic Albanians there is slowly beginning to return to normal. With the 10-week NATO bombing campaign now over and the majority of the Serb troops withdrawn from the Kosovan capital, the search for everyday necessities such as food is underway. But tensions remain as ethnic Albanians keep a wary eye on the remaining Serb soldiers in the city. Life is beginning to move closer to normality in Pristina. Driven by hunger, these Kosovan Albanians have started the hunt for food. But despite the apparent peace here in this food market, fear and tension still fill the air. Some Serb forces, not due to depart for a few days, are still making their presence felt. Under the agreement reached between Yugoslavia and NATO, Yugoslav troops and Serb paramilitaries are to withdraw from Kosovo by June 20. The alliance said as of late Friday, about 10-thousand Serb military personnel had left the province, about a quarter of the government troops present before the agreement. Just the presence of these Serb troops reduced some ethnic Albanians to tears. The political situation in the capital remains tense -- just a few miles away at Pristina airport, Russian and Serb soldiers are still blocking NATO troops from entering. Keen to avoid the escalation of an already delicate situation, NATO peacekeepers are taking a 'softly, softly' approach. Here, the Serbs troops eventually move on -- accompanied with an obscene gesture -- after a British patrol arrives. While the 'cat and mouse' game continues, the grim reality of the NATO operation becomes clearer with the death on Sunday of seven people and the reported discovery by British forces of a suspected mass grave of nearly 100 ethnic Albanians in southern Kosovo.
