Music Sicilian Breeze Topher Mohr and Alex Elena This is Crawford bridge built in the 15th Century, it has nine arches and the single track over the bridge is part of the road named the B3075. The bridge is at Spetisbury in Dorset, it crosses the River Stour. The name Crawford comes from a lost village: Crawford Magna. The village name Spetisbury is Anglo-Saxon, meaning ‘the ancient earthwork frequented by the green woodpecker’ from the Old English ‘speht’ for woodpecker and ‘byrig’ for earthworks. The river is shallow and fast flowing and the water is clear and full of life. Many corn mills powered by water wheels have been built on this stretch of the river Stour, now-a-days we can only imagine the many activities industrious and leisure which must have taken place in, and on the banks of this river years ago.
