This is Dr. Chase Lay two weeks after a fat transfer procedure to my face performed under local anesthesia by my nurse Emily Trinh under physician supervision. I'm looking pretty good and the results are nice. However, and this is important, the results will fad a little more over the next few months and what I have left at the end of 6 months should be very stable for several years. Fat transfer is a great treatment for facial rejuvenation among other things but you must understand the the result can be vary. Everyone is a candidate for fat transfer but not everyone is a good candidate. For instance, patients who are much more advanced in age often would need additional procedures in addition to fat transfer to meet their cosmetic goals. So the only thing consistent about fat transfer is that is can be inconsistent. Chase Lay MD performs fat transfer to the face every week and it is one of Dr. Lay's favorite procedures. The recovery is around 2-3 weeks socially speaking and you may return to regular exercise at around 2 weeks. Full recovery after which time you can put anything on your face or resume any activity where something is placed tightly on the face like a chiropractor visit or snorkle mask would be about 6 weeks. Even though it looks great Dr. Lay predicts he will still want an additional treatment in the tear troughs and temples in about 9 months. The benefits of fat transfer can be great. The worst possible complications of fat harvest and fat grafting are blindness, embolism, stroke, and even death with facial grafting (or any fat grafting procedure especially a BBL) but Dr. Chase Lay has not experience this in his office nor has he heard reports of it in competing offices but Dr. Lay feels it is important patients know all possible risks. Knowing these risks Dr. Lay still elected to have fat grafting performed without worry. What I a patient can expect is swelling, bruising, and a few lumps and bumps in the earlier phase of healing.
