University College London’s award-winning East Marshgate campus features a dazzling and sustainable display of diamond polished and micro-concrete flooring and staircases. The lower level flooring is a sophisticated blend of locally sourced Thames Gravel and an ultra-light matrix, creating a Warm Buff aggregate totalling 2000m2. We used the same blend across the central staircases with sixty matching pre-cast stair treads. On the upper floors, our dedicated team installed 2000m2 of low-VOC micro-concrete, just 3mm thick. The Cool Grey colour offers a smooth contrast to the Diamond Polished Concrete on the ground floor. Our long-time collaborators, architects Stanton Williams and contractors Mace, prioritised sustainability from the conception of this ambitious project. By using low-VOC materials, locally sourced aggregates, and an eco-friendly cement substitute, we were able to significantly reduce our carbon emissions. With impressive green credentials and groundbreaking contemporary design, it’s no wonder that UCLE Marshgate achieved a covetable “Excellent” BREEAM rating and a high commendation at the 2025 Concrete Awards.
