So apparently I’m not content unless things are changing every so often. I recently wanted to change up some things in my shack so I decided to sell a few radios. Among them were the Elecraft KX2 and Kenwood TS-590SG. Both were AMAZING radios but the KX2 just sat in my “go-bag” (which never went anywhere) and the TS-590 didn’t see a lot of use. So those, and another radio I never did use, went off to better homes (Hi Scott) and I began looking for my next transceiver. I was considering something with a second receiver, so a few radios were on my radar, particularly the K3, the IC-7610 or the FTDX101. The morning I went online to finally make a decision I saw on HRO’s website a Yaesu FTDX5000. It wasn’t on there the night before so it was a new addition. I called the store when it opened and got the details. Great condition, comes with everything but a mic. Has some OLED fading which is unfortunately common on many of the 5000’s. But otherwise it was a clean, single owner radio. And it has a second receiver. So I went for it and a few days later I received my FTDX5000MP Limited. Ham Radio Outlet was honest about the OLED’s, one of them in particular was fading. But they weren’t kidding about the condition of the radio. It was in fantastic shape. It was very clean and everything worked as it should too. The 5000MP Limited comes with a built in power supply and has 200 watts of output. It does not come with the separate spectrum scope but has the FH-2 remote and a 300 hertz roofing filter installed. This video runs through some of the things I like about it and the OLED issue, that will eventually become a repair video.
