Inside a purpose-built broadcast centre in Surry Hills, Sky News Australia last night unveiled its new world-class studios and announced it will rebrand as News24 this year, marking 30 years since launching the nation’s first 24-hour news channel. Officially opened by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns, the state-of-the-art facility brings together broadcast and publishing teams to create one of Australia’s largest multimedia journalism hubs. Featuring eight studios, six control rooms, expanded edit suites, voiceover booths and an expansive newsroom, the centre supports more than 1,500 hours of content each week across broadcast and digital platforms. Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Paul Whittaker said the move represents the largest transformation in the network’s history and positions the business for its next phase of growth. The transition to News24 reflects the channel’s evolution from a traditional linear television service to a digital-first, multiplatform news brand with a growing international audience. While the name will change, viewers can expect the same commitment to breaking news, sharp analysis and opinion content.
