Filmed on July 29th and 30th, 2023 Officially opening to the public on July 29th, the REM (Réseau Express Métropolitain/Metropolitan Express Network) is the Montréal metro area's brand new rail rapid transit system! Throughout the opening weekend, the system was fare-free and celebrations were occurring all throughout the line. Official revenue service began the following Monday, July 31st. REM currently consists of five stations on a single line, but will expand (to 26 stations on three lines and 42 mi/67 km in length) in phases throughout the next three years. Its operation is completely automated and when initial plans are completed, it will become the fifth-longest automated transportation system in the world.
