My Nintendo 3DS won't play games! It may be just that one cartridge. Switch cartridges and see if it works. It is more than one game. Nintendo’s tech support says check the games in a different console just in case you’ve messed up several games. I know that if the game errors on another device it is the game card, but I don’t have another Nintendo to test with. But if more than one game is erroring out, the console is faulty. If your brand new console can’t read games, you need to return it because there’s a hardware problem. It hasn’t had this problem before so I know it can work. That rules out sending it to them with a pre-paid label. I’d love for it to be covered under warranty, which is why I desperately want to know how to fix it. If the Nintendo was dropped and now won’t work, you’ll want to call in for service because it is mechanical damage. You can’t do anything to fix the pins on the interior. No one admitted to me it was dropped, so I’d like any solution before I send it in at my expense to be repaired as if it had a broken component like that. Restart the console to see if that clears out the software glitch, maybe removing the cartridge and re-inserting it before rebooting. Of course rebooting is part of the troubleshooting. That’s standard for any gaming device these days plus all the new appliances, because the new smarter devices need reboots to put software updates in place and clear various glitches in the memory. If rebooting would fix this, I wouldn’t have needed to ask for your help. I’m assuming you didn’t migrate from 3DS to 3DS XL, have problems and try to go back as soon as it messes up. First, you can’t do a system transfer back for seven days, so I couldn’t try that solution that fast. Second, I don’t have a 3DS XL, just the 3DS. Then you may want to try cleaning the slot with a barely alcohol moistened cotton swab. And do the same to the games. What do you think of the idea of spraying it with compressed air? That could help clean a game, but inside of the console doors, it could blow something else loose or just push the dirt around. Next up, hold it upside down and shake. No, try pushing the game in all the way and make sure the spring in the system clicks in place to hold it there. If it isn’t in all the way, it won’t be recognized. If I have to push it in all the way and hold it there to be recognized, there is a connection problem. And you’re back to having to send it to Nintendo to get fixed if you don’t want to try rubbing a pencil eraser on each of the row of the cart’s contacts before cleaning them with alcohol. That would help if the problem was gunk on the game contacts preventing it from connecting and communicating properly. Just make sure the contacts are dry before you put them back in the console or something could short out. Then I’d know for sure to send it in for repairs.
