Why I prefer Snorkeling and Freediving over Scuba Diving

For many people, scuba diving is a step above snorkeling and freediving. I don't see things that way; I think each person should do what makes sense for them. Through snorkeling and freediving, I've seen more marine life than probably 99% of scuba divers (mostar). I'm certified in diving, but over time I've felt that I mainly enjoy freediving and snorkeling. It's a matter of simplicity on all levels: equipment, depending only on myself, choosing when and where, exploring for myself. In fact, some dives can only be done this way, such as with whales. The reason for this shows many of the advantages of snorkeling: there's no noise from bubbles, it's much more agile and versatile in the water, and the diver's fixed positioning could be dangerous for both the diver and the whale. I've actually been with whales in French Polynesia. These aspects apply to a general range of marine scenarios and species. When snorkeling, I can explore alone, often from the shore, choosing the perfect weather conditions and postponing when it makes sense; it all depends on me.
