"These are the foundation illustrations for my third-year final project: ‘The Four Seasons at the National Trust’. The project spanned approximately 16 weeks from January to May, and was entirely self-directed. I wanted to use this opportunity to really explore traditional methods of illustration and printing, and to make use of the facilities available to me at Northbrook College; such as the paper and textile print rooms. This project was created to celebrate the 130th birthday of the @nationaltrustcharity by creating a coherent celebratory collection of products that could be used for promotional purposes and as products. I noticed that aside from the oak leaf logo, there was no real consistent artwork or products that could be found in National Trust shops or on their online store that was instantly recognisable as being part of the Trust, nor had I seen anything that implied the celebration of their 130th year. The one consistent thing I had noticed in some of the National Trust shops was lino print exhibited in some way; either on card or as official book cover art. I decided that I wanted to use Lino as the medium for this project. I didn’t want each season to be cliche, but I needed them to be appealing to a wide audience. To make sure this was the case, I decided to contact some National Trust organisations, as well as friends, to ask them what animals, plants, and colours they associated with each season. Thank you if you responded to my questions by the way! I decided to give each season a different area of nature to represent that the National Trust helps to protect. Summer was given insects. The National Trust is currently working on some major rewilding projects to help with wildflower and insect conservation. As summer is usually abuzz with various winged creatures, I decided to try and capture this busy season through them. The print features a Swallowtail Butterfly, Dragon fly, Comma Butterfly, Red Kite, and bumble bees all active in a grassy meadow with some Ox Daisy, Pyramid Orchid and Poppies spread throughout. Summer was decided to be a warm burgundy red based on my responses." ~ Instagram Social Media: Instagram ~ / ollieinksthings Pinterest ~ https://www.pinterest.co.uk/ollieinks...
