Talk given by Dr. Hector Balcazar on January 3, 2026 Dr. Hector G. Balcazar, MS, PhD, grew up in Mexico and later worked in five US universities after completing his graduate degrees from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Balcazar is a respected academic, former university dean, and lifelong advocate for public health equity. His work elevates the role of Community Health Workers and emphasizes the power of human connection in building a more just world. Dr. Balcazar is bilingual: Spanish/English. He is a public health scientist who has conducted numerous studies. These studies include topics such as acculturation and health related behaviors, including the study of bicultural families. Dr. Balcazar has over 180 publications, including 103 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Balcazar is retired and lives with his wife in Mexico. They have three grown sons. Dr. Balcazar and his wife enjoy spending time in their Bahá’í inspired botanical garden and refuge, called: Refugio del Resplandor.
