My Audition for NYO-USA and NYO2 for the 2025 Season. I will post the feedback from the jury as soon as it comes out. Despite not getting into NYO/NYO2, the auditiononing process was still very fun. Hopefully i have a chance next year! I will post the commentary of my audition below: Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Ensembles (NYO-USA) (NYO2) (NYO Jazz) sent you a message: Dear Evan, We are pleased to share with you the comments of our review panel on your audition for NYO-USA. Since we know how much work you put into preparing your excerpts and solo, we hope their observations and suggestions will be helpful. For each instrument, we asked two experienced professional orchestral players to provide brief notes about both the highpoints of your audition and any elements of your playing that it might be possible to strengthen or simply to think about differently. Reviewer 1 Impressive Paganini Concerto, with a lovely sound and nice musical ideas! Nice energy in Mendelssohn. In Paganini, stay consistent in your tempo, come double stops or what may. Try to relax your bow grip a bit, and don?t crawl forward on the stick with your first finger. This way you?ll get even more depth and beauty in your sound, especially in chords. I love your sound in Mendelssohn, now make sure not to rush. In Mozart, aim for longer phrases, and make sure you are not accidentally ?vibrato-accenting? in the middle of the phrase. Excellent 2nd excerpt. The Price is excellent. For my taste it?s a bit over articulated, there?s no need to shorten anything artifically, just play. In Rachmaninoff you have a few wrong notes and a few intonation errors. Make sure not to slow down or over-accent anything. Reviewer 2 Thank you for preparing such great audition materials! Great vibrant opening in your Paganini! I enjoyed your style on this piece, it works so well for the virtousic elements in the piece. Fantastic work on the style change you need for the 1st Mozart excerpt. So many excellent points to your playing! I only have a few areas that I recommend you continue to work on. In some of your excerpts, relax the vibrato to round out the tone more and let the note ring. The is specifically true for the 2nd Mozart excerpt and the Price. Good work on the molto marcato spiccato in the Rachmaninoff. You had some intonation and precision issues between 33 and 34.
