Trip to Mont Tremblant | Quebec | Canada Mont Tremblant situated about 600 km from Toronto and just 150 km from Montreal, ranks among top skiing resorts in North America. We are no skiing experts, still the place holds unmatchable appeal for us too. Just staying there and looking around the awesome natural beauty itself is a great fulfilling experience. Enjoy our drive from Toronto to Mont Tremblant through some really scenic beauty. We started out in the morning from Toronto and after driving for little over one hour took our first stop at Big Apple in the community of Colborne. It lays claim to being the largest apple shaped structure in the world. Besides, it's a bakery and restaurant to experience the taste of Apple pie, Cider, Maple syrup and tarts and a selection of nostalgic treats like Fun Dip Candy. We spent almost an hour there picking up apple based goodies, besides enjoying some of these goodies in the open restaurant with almost freezing March breeze blowing across. Our next stop was at Preston on St. Lawrence river viewpoint . We were there for sometime savoring the vast expanse of St. Lawrence river which also works as the border between USA and Canada, with New York State of USA on the other side of river. Totally frozen Rideau River was quite a sight on the way. It empties into Ottawa river at Rideau Falls in Ottawa, which was the next exciting point on our route, 450 km away from Toronto. Ottawa is Canada’s capital, in the Ontario province, near the city of Montréal and the U.S. border. Sitting on the Ottawa River, it has at its centre Parliament Hill, with grand Victorian architecture and museums such as the National Gallery of Canada, with noted collection of indigenous and other Canadian art, Giant Spider Sculpture in front of National Gallery of Arts and the Gallery itself, Royal Canadian Mint etc. After Ottawa, we entered Quebec province and started our two hour exotic drive to Mont Tremblant. During this time, we were driving through a mountainous area with snow at times in patches, and as we approached Mont Tremblant piles and piles of snow all around became the norm. On finding a very slippery and uphill approach to our Mont Tremblant Cottage, called Double Antarctica, we had to drive back downhill in failing sunlight to request Guest Services to set right this slippery approach. The approach, itself at a fairly steep gradient, had become more slippery and hence formidable because of incessant freezing rains in preceding night. The Guest Services immediately swung into action and sent staff to disperse loads and loads of black pebbles and salt on the affected steep gradient. The staff even helped carry our suitcases up the hill, which in normal times is not their role! So after a lot of last minute drama, we finally settled in our exotic Cottage , in the middle of piles and piles of snow all around. This was an absolutely awesome sight even in the failing evening lights. It was time to unwind and prepare for the excitement which was waiting for us on the next morning in Mont Tremblant. Bye for now as we wait for next morning.
