To coincide with Transgender Awareness Week (November 13-19), Transilience, an organisation supporting young transgender people in North Devon and a Young Gamechangers Fund (YGF) grantee, is releasing a new short film today. This film educates people about the challenges transgender young people face, such as public hate crimes and hostility from parents and encourages members of the public and families to be more accepting. In keeping with the youth-led ethos of the YGF, the film was conceived and led by Oscar Sharples, founder of Transilience, Transilience Youth Advisory Board Members and the young trans people they support. The YGF (a £4.5 million fund from Co-op, the Co-op Foundation, and the #iwill Fund) is a groundbreaking initiative supporting youth-led projects across the UK. It offers grants of up to £20,000 annually to support young leaders transforming their communities. This fund is delivered in collaboration with the Global Fund for Children and Restless Development. The #iwill Fund is made possible thanks to £66 million joint investment from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to support young people to access high quality social action opportunities.
