I tool around in my Capri 14.2 in Salmon Bay in Seattle, WA. Fantastic winds this April day. I ran down to the bridge then beat back up to the locks all in about 45 minutes. Today I think I was running at around 3-4 kts, and hitting a top speed right around 6kts when on a beam reach or heading up. The wind in Salmon Bay can be variable and hard to read sometimes, and I often have to search for the right close-hauled angle. Right around 9 minutes I just about dump it. I think I misjudged the wind angle before the tack. I'm still not super smooth with tacks single-handed, but I was getting the hang of it by the end, and caught a luck tack that took me all the way up the end of the canal the last several hundred yards. I tend to be more conservative with keeping the boat upright, so I'm often bubbling wind out of the main while keeping the jib sheeted in winds like these. There's nothing like hitting that balance hanging out over the edge with everything sheeted in. I don't get many days like this, so I thought I'd throw it on here.
