“Veterans Day 11.11.11.” is a nationwide “day in the life” exploration of what it means to be a military veteran in the United States. I am honored that the story I shot (Richard Deki's Journey) is one of the 15 stories selected for the final, 90 minute, award winning film - conceived and directed by the multitalented filmmaker, John Goheen. From the press release: “The result is a remarkably diverse and unique documentary that tells the stories of veterans in their own words. The 15 profiles are often poles apart in content, in the types of characters they profile, in supporting material, and ultimately, in the style employed by the individual filmmakers. To unite these individually distinct stories, five veterans of different eras serve as the thread between them as they provide a “veteran to veteran” roundtable perspective that adds another rich storytelling layer to the film. In keeping with the theme of many veterans, one of the most unusual aspects of the production is that all contributors donated their time to work on this project. They agreed to use their own equipment and storytelling skills, often spending their own money on travel expenses. With no guarantee anyone’s work would be selected to be in the film, ultimately the 15 chosen represent insightful, emotional and powerful stories. “V-Day 11.11.11.” is an entirely not for profit film produced solely to tell stories of inspiration and heartache, of joy and pride, of service and sacrifice. The emotionally moving film and has won several awards including the Silver Screen award at the Las Vegas International film festival in 2012 and BEA Best of Festival in 2013 for the film’s director, John Goheen.”
