Powerful engine sounds on this 50021 Driver Experience Day. Great Fun, Great Noise - Try one soon!

Paul and Ben Spracklen hosted their first Driver Experience Day on Sunday November 20th 2024 with 50021, at the Epping Ongar Railway. The day was fabulous and a great success! I was lucky enough to film 7 drivers, for more than half of the day. I witnessed the enjoyment on the day first hand. If you watch this half hour film, it will surely encourage enthusiasts where they can, to live out their dreams, on one of these experiences. Save up and do one next year if you can, as they are so memorable and at the same time support your preservationists and loco owners, as well. Hopefully, for the trainee drivers on the day, this is a permanent "Lifetime Memory Keepsake" of their amazing time, full of joy and wide smiles! From the sound perspective in this film, to replicate the journeys and demonstrate the on board sound of a 50, which is obviously Hellfire, a microphone was used in the engine room, one in the cab and a rear cab exhaust microphone to create various sound mixes. If you you just want to witness the onboard thrash only, rather than watch each driver I recommend starting at 9 minutes for the full effect of a Class 50 taking power in the cab - it's a joy!!
