Southern Teramo in Abruzzo, Italy Abruzzo is on the eastern coast of Italy, mid-calf on the boot. The region is divided into 4 smaller wine regions, the inland area of L’Aquila, the southern coastal area of Chieti, the mid-coastal region of Pescara, and the northern coastal region that butts up to Marche called Teramo. Agricola Cirelli & Francesco Cirelli Francesco Cirelli grew up spending summers in the countryside with his grandparents. Having grown up in the city, he attended military school and then graduated from University with a degree in Economics. In 2003, he and his wife, Michela, moved to this spot in the Teramo region of Abruzzo to live the peaceful rural life that his grandparents had once enjoyed. Francesco makes wines of Pecorino, Trebbiano, and Montepulciano, the three grapes best known in this region. His primary focus is his amphorae wines, which include the 3 varieties above and, of course, a Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, the rich and deeply colored rosé of Montepulciano that is well known in this region.
