[KiniNews] Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is seeing red over the ham sandwich being sold at a KK Mart outlet in Universiti Malaya. Reminding the supermarket chain that the “old wound” over the socks controversy has yet to heal, he questioned the halal certification for the sandwich. Meanwhile, in a separate story, KK Mart said the supplier of the sandwiches, Shake and Bake Cafe had provided a halal certificate for the chicken ham and cheese layers for its reference and the labelling was done by the supplier. KK Mart added that it viewed the issue seriously and had frozen all business dealings with the supplier as well as halting the processing of the product from entering any outlets pending investigations over the matter. It said the supplier was not authorised to use KK Mart’s logo on the sandwich’s packaging - which it said was done by the manufacturer, and KK Mart has filed a police report. The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had also commented on the issue stating that the sandwich as a whole does not have halal certification, in response to the halal logo being placed on the sandwich’s packaging. ___________________ 📌 Share this news!
