SACRED BLUE LOTUS OF THE NILE - THE FLOWER OF INTUITION & CONNECTION Perhaps the most sacred and revered plant in Ancient Egypt, Blue Lotus was used extensively in medicine, magic, ritual, and celebration. The flower is depicted everywhere in Ancient Egyptian Temples and writings. The Ancient Egyptians had a deep understanding of the nature of life and creation. They had many traditional uses and applications of Blue Lotus. The flowers of Blue Lotus were steeped in wine which was then shared during religious ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. Blue Lotus is said to connect one to the Divine, inducing higher states of being and consciousness. It is for this reason it was widely used in religious rites and ceremonies. Blue Lotus is said to induce a state of euphoria, promote relaxation, & improve circulation, making it a potent aphrodisiac. The lily is often associated with symbols of creation, rebirth, death, & the sun. Part of its symbolism comes from the way it grows~ like other water lilies Blue Lotus emerges from the murky waters once a year to bloom for only three days. In India this flower alone has 17 names including Indivar, Nilakamala, Nilotpala, and Utpala. This plant is a perennial aquatic rooting herb, wild / cultivated, generally found in tanks and ponds throughout the warmer parts of India, particularly the Eastern Ghats. For centuries it has been cultivated in Southeast Asia, especially around temples. The Indian system of medicines, particularly Ayurveda and Siddha, uses N. stellata as a single drug or in combination with other drugs. It is also known as Utpala in Sanskrit, but this name refers only to dried flowers. N. stellata are ingredients of many ayurvedic formulations like, Asokarista, Arvindasava, Usirasava, Candanasava, Kalyanaka Ghrta, Samangadi Curna, Kanaka Taila, Jatyadi Taila, Tungadrumadi Taila, Manjesthadi Taila, Candanadi Lauha, and Triphala Ghrta. It is also an ingredient of many polyherbal formulations for anti-aging, rejuvenation, and menstrual irregularities. Nilotpala falls under the group known as Anjanadi Gana. Scientists of Hyderabad based Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) studied medical properties of the plant and found that its seeds and tuber have medicinal properties that can help cure diabetes, diarrhoea, fight obesity and even can help fight certain type of cancer cells. This video was taken to show how I scout around the ponds near by my locality for harvesting Blue Lotus which only starts blooming during rainy season. I collect, dry and store them as much as I can for making medicated oils, infusions for soaps etc. Hope I can come up with a Blue Lotus Soap video in the near future.
