Nasma Khamis Kidogo, popularly known as Paka Mapepe, was one of the renowned taarab musicians in Tanzania. She was born in 1986 in Dar es Salaam and attended Amana Primary School in Ilala from 1994 to 2000 and Jamhuri Secondary School from 2001 to 2003. Her musical career began in 2003 after completing her secondary education, driven by her love for taarab music and admiration for legends such as Zuhura Shaaban, Khadija Kopa, and the late Nasma Khamis Kidogo. Her singing talent was discovered by her uncle, Kessy Abdallah, who connected her with the Segere No2 group in Dar es Salaam to further hone her skills. While at Segere, she recorded the song "Mpenzi Wana" before the group disbanded. In 2007, Mussa Mipango, a renowned bass guitarist from TOT Taarab, introduced her to Zanzibar Stars Modern Taarab ‘Watoto wa Pwani’. However, she did not stay long with Zanzibar Stars and joined East African Melody Taarab in the same year, where she recorded the popular song "Paka Mapepe." Nasma was married to Haji Kijungu, a skilled bass guitarist, and they had one child named Taliq. Although she has passed away, her contributions to taarab music will always be remembered. She valued the support and collaboration from the taarab groups she worked with, as well as the love from her fans and family.
