Chinese Hoax Global warming is a Chinese hoax! A Chinese hoax, I’m telling you! Menu no. 43 sure has a strange new aftertaste. Which chicken will you choose now: sweet and sour or KFC? Did you ever think they could come up with something like that? After producing all that plastic kitsch for us – all the cheap smartphone cases, all the toys our children put in their mouths, all the cheap and expensive electronic gadgets and all that textile that smells of unidentifiable chemicals – they’ve come up with something so bizarre! They’ve destroyed their fertile land mining for rare earths and poisoned their drinking water with industrial waste and ruined their fresh air with harmful emissions and then they make up this … global warming thing! I’m telling you – this stupid phrase should be banned! We bought everything from them! But we’re sure as hell not buying this! Did you ever think – dear millennials – that you would see this day? The day when China will lead our fight against global warming. Of course you didn’t! Because only yesterday everything was still in place. We all knew what “Made in China” meant. And what “Made in USA” meant! We knew who distributed the fake cameras and who distributed the original smartphones. We knew who was sending us sweet and sour sauce and who was sending us popcorn. We knew what the “family happiness” menu was and what a “happy meal” was. We knew which country was the evil den of communism and which country was the protector of free democracy! But then the forgotten masters awoke on top of a misty mountain. Ancient warriors slayed the dragon and sacrificed its burning heart. Ming Dynasty porcelain vases were spinning in mid-air as if defying gravity and cups of green tea were flying around. The Feng Shui energy streams changed their directions and suddenly all the apartments on Earth were facing the wrong way! The terracotta soldiers were riding goats in the silver gleam of moonlight! Somebody must have let something like an ancient devil run free and the world shifted its poles. The Tibetans are still under repression and the Dalai Lama still lives in refuge. The menus in Chinese restaurants still have the same numbers. But China now leads the fight against global warming while the United States is shaking off Neo-Nazis and is trying to pretend that Florida isn’t any more flooded and Hurricanes aren’t any more common than they were 20 years ago. Who would have thought that we would ever see this day come.
