Canadian Businesses & Human Rights Issues webinar for RIBL 687 - International Business

The Canadian National Contact Point has the power to receive complaints regarding alleged breaches of human rights, environmental or corruption obligations by Canadian companies abroad, and to investigate them. The Canadian government has just established the Canadian Ombudsperson Responsible Enterprise (CORE) which will also have jurisdiction to investigate alleged human rights breaches by Canadian companies abroad. Therefore, this issue of the obligations of Canadian companies to comply with human rights, environmental and corruption obligations abroad is becoming a key component of the Canadian government focus. They have the power to penalize companies that fail to comply. The seminar is important to companies who are either operating internationally or considering establishing foreign operations. The seminar will be with Pascale Collas, who is the National Contact Point. Pascale will discuss how the NCP works in practice and the relationship between the NCP and the new Ombudsperson under the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsbile Enterprises announced by the Federal Government of Canada.
