Engine noise is very apparent around the four minute mark. Hi. This is a video about my F150 that starts to knock after the engine warms up. I know it's long, but I wanted to show how the engine sounds from a cold start through warm up. After the initial start up, you can only barely make out that the engine has a knock. I go through a couple of steps to help warm up the engine such as revving, shifting to reverse and drive to put a load on the motor. The truck has wheel chocks set and has the parking brake engaged on for safety. I uploaded this video because there wasn't another like it. Many videos show only a few seconds of the engine knocking and the video descriptions were vary vague. Plus, I've read many blogs with owners complaining about a similar problem and many community users suggesting a wide variety of fixes. The problem with guessing is the cost. Here's what I did to the motor until I finally remedied the problem. I used a mechanics stethoscope which helped me isolate the problem to the right side, passenger side of the motor. I also heard the noise closer to front and top side of the motor. Because I thought it was in the front, and because the truck has 175K miles, I assumed timing chain and timing chain tensioner. That didn't fix it. I thought lifters as my next guess and because these motors have problems with intake manifold gaskets, I decided to tackle that job and inspect the lifters while I had access. Lifters seemed fine so my next guess was the rocker arms. After replacing all of the rocker arms, pivots, and push rods on the passenger side, the noise went away. See my other video here to watch the tear down process - https://goo.gl/PCc66e I'll be doing a video soon of the truck in its current state, plus there's more problems to fix and I will document them as well.
