When I originally thought about travelling to Colombia, hanging on the beach and enjoying an island-like adventure never really crossed my mind. Some locals that I met in Bogota said "you have to go to Santa Marta, it's like being on an island". I simply had to google Santa Marta and I booked my flights immediately for the next day. You can fly around Colombia very affordably. This flight, literally booked about 18 hours before take-off, cost me $38 (including tax) and I didn't have to flap my own wings to get there. The landing at the Santa Marta airport is breathtaking as the plane almost skims the ocean on final descent. Exiting the airport you are surrounded by palm trees and welcomed by eager taxi drivers. We initially make our way through the town of Santa Marta and into Taganga Beach, about 20 minutes outside of town. Taganga feels like a Hawaiian island with people that are some of the most kind I have ever met. Welcoming, humble and abundantly excited to share their "island" with you. On this visit we have some $5,000,000 fresh tropical juices, explore some of the land on motorcycles and hike into the jungle to find a lazy river. There is so much awesomeness here in the Santa Marta area and I can't wait to come back for more chillaxing and adventures. #colombia #santamarta #taganga #palomino #lazyriver #motoadventure #island #tropical #beach #travel #adventuresbeforedentures #theboredomreport #offthegrid
